Better Than Advertising In The Greeley Tribune

tribuneIf you are still throwing money away by advertising in newspapers then you need to get up to speed with the times. Modern consumers read newspapers less than ever and the consumers that do read local newspapers usually just glance over many of the ads. So, if this is the only way that you are communicating with your consumers, then you’ve just managed to throw away a ton of money and will see very little results.

Advertising is a funny thing. Here is how it develops. Someone finds a way to create utility for consumers. On Facebook the utility might be that of gossip or showing off or feeling connected to people you know. On Craigslist it’s the opportunity to shop, the ability to find great deals, the opportunity to sell you stuff and make some cash. Yelp allows everyone to be a critic. You can share your opinions about a local business and millions of people have the ability to see what you’re thoughts are. Pretty cool stuff. The newspaper offered people information and knowledge. And yes, I still think knowledge equals power. So people feel in love with these sources of utility. And then, pretty quickly people in advertising realized that these sources are connecting with a lot of people. This would be a great place to tell them about our product. There you have it. But now we are seeing less and less people glance using some of these sources, in particular newspapers. The modern consumer looks online for that source of information and knowledge. Your ads go un-noticed because they are there looking for just that source of information and knowledge. You advertising either needs to be through channels that are offering relevant utility to consumers (I suggest our Online Advertising Program where consumers are looking to save money…that’s the utility or our Global Connection program which utilizes online media) or directly in front of them like our Personal Marketing & Advertising program does.
